Abstract
The aim of this study was to review US and Korean policies for safe use of injection and suggest comprehensivepolicies for Korea. We searched and reviewed literature on the safe use of injections released by the global network ofWorld Health Organization, the United States Pharmacopoeia, the label and package guidelines of U.S. Food and DrugAdministration for safe use of injection. Compared with US regulations, Korea¡¯s regulations were inadequate to protectpatients safety. Here, we suggest comprehensive policies for enhancing safe use of injection in Korea. With respect to thesafe use of injection, we need to reduce high frequency of injection prescription, build the facilities for maintaining sterileenvironment for compounding injection. Lastly, we need to promote the use of ready-to-use injection products and displayclear label whether the injection is a single-dose, multiple-dose or single-patient-use product. Korean health authoritiesshould put more efforts to improve regulations for the safe use of injection.
